Apparently finishing schools are back.
Caroline Hoe, a 25-year-old graduate of the Suzan Johnston finishing course, also believes in the importance of considering others, especially now she’s completed the program. "I’m more aware of manners, being polite, being respectful of other people", she says.
The course is designed for women, and includes advice and practical workshops on matters such as make-up, grooming, speech enhancement and deportment. A similar program is offered to men, but is less popular.
I'm not surprised. After all, men don't need manners.
Seems like just another way of reminding us all that women are the ones who are meant to "be respectful of other people".
I mean, I could just keep posting quotes from it and gaping at you. You know, I thought we'd got rid of these things ages ago. Actually, that's not true, I knew they still existed. I just thought they'd got a bit better at the fake justification (you know, all that confidence bullshit). I mean, they have a go at that in this article, but it's so obvious that the real reason is all about making sure that women know their proper place... faaaaaugh. I'm not sure whether I should feel sick that these things are still out there - and apparently becoming more popular - or whether I should be glad that at least they're dropping the bullshit, making it more obvious what they're about, and therefore making themselves easier to mock...
I'm going with the feeling sick.
